Solid and strong
leadership is key to the success of any group. At West End, we are following
God’s pattern in the New Testament for how He wants the church to be organized.
This includes having elders (shepherds, overseers) and deacons (Philippians
1:1). We also have an evangelist working with us to do much of the teaching and
to help us spread the gospel in Licking County and beyond.
Our Elders
1 Timothy 3:1-7 and
Titus 1:5-9 identifies the characteristics men must possess to be elders in a
local church. We presently have two men serving as shepherds of this church.
These are: Terry Wilcox (left) and Milton Perry (right).
The work of the
elders includes providing wise counsel and a godly example (Hebrews 13:7; 1
Peter 5:2-3), watching out for the souls of every member of the church (Acts
20:28; 1 Peter 5:2; Hebrews 13:17), leading the church (1 Peter 5:2-3), feeding
the church (1 Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:9; Ephesians 4:11-14), protecting the church
from spiritual dangers (Acts 20:28-31; Titus 1:9-14), and caring for the church
(James 5:14-16).
Our Deacons
1 Timothy 3:8-13
identifies the characteristics men must possess to be deacons in a local
church. We presently have four men who are serving as deacons with this church.
These are (from left to right): Justin Culbertson, Dale Parker, Gerry Miller,
and Steve Hays.
The work of deacons
is one of providing special service for the congregation (see Acts 6:1-7).
Although every Christian is taught to be a servant, the deacons work with the
elders in a special way to make sure the needs of this congregation are
addressed and help carry out the work of the church.
Our Evangelist
The work and character of an evangelist is described in the books of 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus, as well as other places throughout the New Testament. We presently have Eric Krieg (pictured below) working with us as an evangelist.
The work Eric does
as an evangelist includes teaching and preaching during our assemblies and
congregational Bible classes as well as working to spread the gospel throughout
this community and beyond.
We invite you to visit us and let
our leadership help you learn and live God’s word.
